La Serena

02.04.17 – 05.04.17 – La Serena

I’ve heard a lot good things about La Serena, before. But apparently, I arrived not at the perfect time. I guess, it can be pretty when it’s high- season. When I went there, there were only less people, in general. The beach was very dirty, and pretty much dead. But my hostel was soooo amazing.

A very small, quiet, cheap, clean hostel called Penuelas Hostel with super lovely owners that help you out with all you’d like to know, give you good food and just give the best hospitality you can get.

Nice beach when the weather suits. Water is way too cold though

the ugly reality

After having a relaxing first night me and a scottish girl called Carina went to a town, close by. It’s supposed to be the root of Pisco (Chile and Peru are always fighting about the right where Pisco actually got founded) It’s a very peaceful town deep in the mountains, already inside the desert.

Thank’s for this nice day Carina. Was really nice to meet such a calm soul as you!

The day after, I went on an astronomic tour to an observatory. For that I actually spent a lot of money, it didn’t really pay off. The starts were way to bright to see what I expected. At least I got a beautiful photo of the moon, taken with my iPhone through a telescope that works with a mirror instead a lense. Also I learned a lot about the constellations. So eventually, it was not too bad.

The day after, me and a friend from England called Dan went to the city right next to LaSerena, called Coquimbo. This city definitely has more to offer than La Serena. There is a huge tower in crucifix- form what was builded in 2000 as celebration for Christ’s birthday. You can take the elevator up, on about 70m and have a beautiful view all over Coquimbo and La Serena.
